Los Angeles — Equality California announced today that it has endorsed Los Angeles attorney Susan Jerich for Los Angeles County Superior Court judge and Greg Rodriguez to represent District 42 (Palm Springs) in the California Assembly.
The news is unpredictable. Otherwise it wouldn’t be new.
But some events are set in stone. Time and again, they serve as a source of intrigue and camaraderie, highlighting goodness, frailty and genuine tomfoolery.
As a reader, you should expect to hear more about the following people and events in 2016.
Yes, the upcoming presidential election is exciting. It certainly makes for good theater. But there are several elections happening in your own background, which will have just as much, if not more, of an impact on the desert.
The list of out candidates seeking California Statehouse seats in 2016 continues to expand as the March filing deadline approaches.
There are at least 12 gay or lesbian Democratic candidates seeking state Senate or Assembly seats next year, the majority of whom are running for office in southern California districts. The total has increased by three since the Political Notebook first reported in July on the LGBT legislative candidates running next year.
So far no known out Republicans have announced campaigns, according to the head of a statewide group for LGBT GOPers.

Greg Rodriguez Announces 2nd Quarter Fundraising Results
Today, Greg Rodriguez, candidate for the 42nd Assembly District released his first fundraising totals for his campaign. For the second quarter running from April 1st to June 30th Rodriguez raised over $49,000 for the 2016 campaign. The campaign also announced that donations came from 190 unique individuals demonstrating strong grassroots support.

Palm Springs Democrat Gregory Rodriguez, former district director for Rep Raul Ruiz, D-Yucca Valley, has announced his intent to run for the 42nd Assembly District next year.
The district incorporates large portions of Riverside and San Bernardino counties, as well as Beaumont, San Jacinto, Banning, and most of Hemet. It is relatively new, having been host to just two prior elections in 2014 and 2012. The district leans conservative with 58 percent of the population registered Republican, and 42 percent registered Democrat.
