Palm Springs Democrat Gregory Rodriguez, former district director for Rep Raul Ruiz, D-Yucca Valley, has announced his intent to run for the 42nd Assembly District next year.
The district incorporates large portions of Riverside and San Bernardino counties, as well as Beaumont, San Jacinto, Banning, and most of Hemet. It is relatively new, having been host to just two prior elections in 2014 and 2012. The district leans conservative with 58 percent of the population registered Republican, and 42 percent registered Democrat.
Greg Rodriguez, the former district director for Democratic Rep. Raul Ruiz, made his candidacy official Sunday for the 42nd State Assembly District. He spoke to a room of Democratic activists and donors at the Renaissance Hotel in Palm Springs — a group that he’s gotten to know well in the last decade as an advocate for LGBT causes and a political consultant.
“But I’m at a time in my life where I want to get out from behind the scenes,” he said, “and it’s time for me to step forward and lead.”
